In Urdu with English subtitles. The first film to deal with the human consequences of the 1947 partition of India, the controversial Garam Hava deals with the plight of North Indian Muslim businessman Salim Mirza who, in the grim months after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, wrestles with the dilemma of whether to move his family to Pakistan as many of his relatives already have, or stay in India. The film details the slow disintegration of his family, and is one of the most serious, poignant films made on the post-partition plight of Muslims in India. It is directed by M.S. Sathyu
